Some of the most beautiful and refined furniture ever made was created in Paris during the eighteenth century. Our enchanting ornament is based on a splendid neoclassical fauteuil, or armchair, in the Museums collection. Originally made for King Louis XVIs Château de Saint-Cloud outside Paris, it was supplied in 1788 by Georges Jacob (17391814, master 1765) and gilded by Louis-François Chatard (ca. 1749 1819).
