Description
Our enchanting ornament is based on an elegant armchair from the Tapestry Room at Croome Court (176371), Worcestershire, England, which is now installed as a period room in the Museum. The chair was made in London in 1769 by John Mayhew (English, 17361811) and William Ince (English, died 1804), and was upholstered with rich floral tapestry from the Royal Gobelins Manufactory in Paris. Its restrained neoclassical style became popular in the latter part of the eighteenth century. Cast resin. Hand painted. Includes a gold ribbon for hanging. Gift boxed. 4”H x 2 1/4”W x 2 1/2”D.
