Louis C. Tiffany
A master of many media, Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 18481933) was one of Americas most noted decorative artists at the turn of the twentieth century. Louis Comfort Tiffany began his career as a painter, but moved quickly to interior decoration and decorative arts. In addition to leaded- glass windows and lighting fixtures, Tiffany Studios produced exceptional works in wood, bronze, and enamel, as well as jewelry, blown glass, pottery, furniture, and textiles.
Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 18481933) designed the brilliant five-paneled Magnolia window (ca. 1885) for the Tiffany mansion at 72nd Street and Madison Avenue in New York. Divided by heavy leading, the window includes sections composed of graceful blossoming branches with pearly leaves and yellow and silver-gray leaf buds primed to open.
