Peter Paul Rubens
Peter Paul Rubens (Flemish, 15771640) was a prolific seventeenth-century Baroque paintera style that emphasized movement, color, and sensuality. He is best known for his paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects, and his Counter-Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes.
The delicate design of our Venus Earrings is adapted from those worn by the Roman goddess of love in Venus in Front of a Mirror, a famous painting by Peter Paul Rubens (Flemish, 1577 1640). In the painting, Venus wears nothing but a bracelet and a pair of pearl teardrop earringsone of the earrings is white, and the other, reflected in a mirror, is black. Produced in cooperation with the Princely Collections of Liechtenstein. Gold overlay, with simulated glass pearls. Pierced, with gold- filled posts. 1 1/4”L.
